Donald Trump won the 2024 election. In fact, he won both the popular and electoral votes. Republicans did well up and down ballot. Democrats have been missing a trick since Donald Trump was elected in 2016.

Stereotyping

Over the summer, I got to go to a young niece’s birthday party in San Antonio, Texas. I’m a white male, no college education. My wife is Hispanic along with her side of the family, and brother-in-law is several races. My nieces, for instance, are Hawaiian, Hispanic, Chinese if that gives you an idea of their parents. My wife and I were the only Harris voters at the party. I was the only “white non-college educated” person at the party and I (a registered Republican) was voting for Harris along with my wife (registered Dem). Every single person the Democrat party would deem a minority or person of color was voting for Trump. We were outnumbered 4:1 at least.

My wife pointed this out as we were driving to the party and I found it fascinating.

I enjoy having discussions about race wth my wife, she plays along well and offers incredible insights. Another discussion I had with her regarded masculinity and Hispanic culture. I mentioned I had been discussing Trump’s appeal with Hispanic voters after the 2016 election with two female Hispanic reporters.

I mentioned to them I felt there was a perceivable masculinity streak within Hispanic culture that I thought was appealing to Hispanic male voters in particular, but also female Hispanic voters. The reporters bristled at the idea of such a stereotype and asserted there was no such streak and the appeal of Trump to Hispanic voters was explained another way.

When I brought this up with my Hispanic wife, she said the masculinity streak was clear as day and she totally agreed it was a huge factor in the appeal of Trump to her side of the family. What’s the disconnect between the two Hispanic reporters and my Hispanic wife?

Identity Politics

The Democrats focus on skin color and genitalia too much when analyzing how they expect people to vote. Thomas Sowell’s book “Black Rednecks and White Liberals” brings a lot of light to such topics, but I doubt many Democrats would willingly read the material.

There are no monoliths. Not all black people, white people, Hispanics, asians, men, or women vote the same way. This election clearly demonstrates this and Democrats helped re-elect Trump in the process.
